Why font choice makes or breaks a name tattoo

A name tattoo is pure typography — there's no image to carry it, so the lettering is the design. The same name reads romantic in a flowing script, solemn in blackletter, and playful in a handwritten style. Seeing the options side by side on your own skin beats squinting at a font list on a website.

Size and placement interact with the font, too. Delicate thin scripts lose their hairlines when shrunk onto a wrist; heavy blackletter can overpower a small placement. Previewing on a photo shows you exactly where the limit is before your artist has to warn you.

Popular choices to test

Names of partners, kids and parents — the classic. Try the forearm placement from the app's own showcase: script font, small accent symbol (a heart, a star) above the lettering.
